Ferree Statement on Antitrust Lawsuit against Intel

WASHINGTON D.C. - Today, the New York State Attorney General filed a federal lawsuit against Intel Corporation, accusing the company of violating state and federal antitrust laws.  The following statement can be attributed to Ken Ferree, Senior Fellow at The Progress & Freedom Foundation:

It's unfortunate that the NY Attorney General has decided to interfere in a market that is actually working for consumers.  Despite all of the rhetoric and grandstanding, there is no evidence that I've seen of any harm to Intel's competitors, to competition, or to consumers.  On the contrary, the microprocessor market is characterized by rapidly falling prices, increasing outputs, and improved performance.  Indeed, the only reason evident for bringing this case is the political splash it will no doubt make.  That's not how sound competition policy is grounded.
