Dr. Thomas Lenard Named PFF President
Caprio to Associate With McKenna Long & Aldridge

WASHINGTON D.C. - The Progress & Freedom Foundation announced today that Dr. Thomas Lenard, longtime PFF scholar and  senior vice president for research and senior fellow, has been appointed acting president.  He succeeds Daniel W. Caprio, Jr., who will be working with McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP on the firm’s radio frequency identification (RFID) initiative. Caprio will also remain affiliated with PFF as a senior adjunct fellow.

PFF Chairman and co-founder George "Jay" Keyworth, II, said of Lenard's appointment: "No one knows PFF and its issues as well as Tom. I've worked closely with him for more than a decade and know he is the right person to continue PFF's growth." Keyworth also expressed his gratitude for Caprio's service. "Under Dan's leadership PFF held a supremely successful Aspen Summit and continued to be the key voice in Washington for innovative thinking on digital economy policy issues. I wish him the best of luck in his new endeavors.”

"I am excited about the opportunity to continue my passionate focus on transformative technology policy issues like RFID, data privacy, and information security," Caprio said. “I will work with Tom to ensure a successful transition and wish PFF continued success in the future."

Lenard anticipated continued success for the Foundation. "The digital policy environment has never been more exciting, and PFF has never been in a better position to play a central role in the debate.  It is an honor to be asked to lead our very talented team, and I look forward to building on the institution’s record of accomplishment."

Dr. Lenard has been with PFF since 1995.  He is the author or coauthor of numerous books and articles on communications policy, electricity, antitrust, privacy and other regulatory issues.  He has held senior positions at the Office of Management and Budget and the Federal Trade Commission.  Dr. Lenard was member of the economics faculty at the University of California, Davis.  He received his Ph.D. in economics from Brown University and his B.A. from the University of Wisconsin.
