Gilder Discusses The Silicon Eye
PFF, Discovery Institute Co-Sponsor Book Discussion

WASHINGTON D.C. - The Progress & Freedom Foundation and the Discovery Institute will co-host an evening with technology visionary and bestselling author George Gilder on Thursday, May 19 th. Gilder will discuss his latest book, The Silicon Eye, a fascinating story of the private Silicon Valley tech start-up Foveon as it developed its disruptive digital imagery technology, and in turn was buffeted by the unexpected twists and turns of tech markets.

Gilder, a Discovery Institute Senior Fellow, has a long association with PFF. In 1994 he joined PFF co-founder George Keyworth, Esther Dyson and Alvin Toffler in authoring "Cyberspace and the American Dream: A Magna Carta for the Digital Age," a prescient essay that foresaw many of the business and policy challenges of the Knowledge Age. In 1997, PFF joined with then-Rep. Rick White (R-Washington) to co-host a reception celebrating the publication of Gilder's The Meaning of the Microcosm.

The Wall Street Journal described The Silicon Eye by saying "this is no straightforward tale of innovation." The Silicon Eye celebrates some of the smartest and most colorful technology minds of our time and illustrates how an unpredictable mix of genius, drive and luck can turn a startup into a successful company.

Gilder is well known as a leading prophet of the supply-side revolution with his writings in A.B. Laffer's economic reports and the editorial pages of The Wall Street Journal. He is the author of several books on entrepreneurship, wealth creation and technology, including Wealth and Poverty, Life after Television, Microcosm and Telecosm. Gilder is a frequent contributor to Forbes and founder and Editor in Chief of The Gilder Technology Report.

The event May 19 will be held at the Discovery Institute, located on the northeast corner of 15 th and K Streets Northwest ( 1015 15 th St. NW, Suite 900, Washington, D.C. ), and will begin at 5:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
