EchoStar CEO Charles Ergen Speaks Thursday
Legg Mason, Precursor, Schwab to Focus On Multi-Channel Marketplace

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Charles Ergen, the founder, chairman and CEO of EchoStar Communications Corporation, will speak on Thursday, March 4, at a lunch sponsored by The Progress & Freedom Foundation. Joining Ergen to discuss EchoStar, the Satellite Home Viewer Improvement Act and recent developments in the dynamic multi-channel video marketplace will be Blair Levin of Legg Mason Equity Research, Rudy Baca of the Precursor Group and Paul Gallant of Schwab's Washington Research Group. EchoStar serves over nine million satellite TV consumers through the DISH Network.

Ergen, who oversees one of the last major freestanding media companies, is featured as part of the Foundation's series of "CEO Lunches." The event begins at Noon in the Rotunda Room of the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center at 1300 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, in Washington. Previous series speakers have included Verizon CEO Ivan Siedenberg and Vonage CEO Jeffrey Citron.

Those interested in attending should register by contacting Eileen Goulding at 202-289-8928 or egoulding@pff.org. Members of the media should contact David Fish at 202-289-8928 or dfish@pff.org.

EchoStar (NASDAQ: DISH) and its subsidiaries deliver Direct Broadcast Satellite television products and services to customers worldwide. The nine satellites that make up the EchoStar fleet provide hundreds of digital video, audio and data services to U.S. customers, through the DISH Network service. In December, DISH Network announced the availability of local channels in 100 markets. The company is looking for ways to offer new services such as high definition TV, in order to maximize consumers' programming choices.

"Whether he'll be buying, bought or launching his way to a bigger future as a stand-alone company, Charlie Ergen is obviously one of the communication sector's brightest innovators," says Foundation President Raymond L. Gifford. "He exerts an amazing influence on our digital future, and will be a great speaker."

The Progress & Freedom Foundation is a market-oriented think tank that studies the digital revolution and its implications for public policy. It is a 501(c)(3) research & educational organization.
