Activities of Note
- Swanson Appointed "Broadband Ambassador"
The Internet Innovation Alliance has appointed PFF Senior Fellow Bret Swanson as "Broadband Ambassador" to support their "National Broadband Strategy" campaign. More information on the program can be found on the IIA website. In related news, Swanson was a keynote speaker this week at the Talk the Future conference at the University of Applied Sciences-Krems in Vienna, Austria. Swanson discussed the coming "exaflood" of broadband traffic and its implications for the mobile business and mobile applications.
- Esbin and Thierer Advise on FCC Policy, Child Safety
Adam Thierer, PFF Senior Fellow, will participate in the next Internet Safety Technical Task Force open meeting, scheduled for September 23rd at Harvard Law School. Members will discuss online age verification, filtering, and authentication tools. On September 25th, PFF Senior Fellow Barbara Esbin is scheduled to participate in a discussion panel on FCC Reform hosted by New York Law School. More information on the panel, which will be held at the Rayburn House Office Building, will be available on the school's website.
- Sydnor Talks IP Policy at U.S Chamber
In July, PFF Senior Fellow Tom Sydnor was invited to participate in a roundtable on "Emerging Issues in IP," organized by the Global Intellectual Property Center at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The participants, including scholars and industry representatives, discussed strategies for promoting IP policies and protecting innovation.
- Szoka Selected for FAA's Space Advisory Committee
Berin Szoka, PFF Visiting Fellow, has been appointed to the Federal Aviation Administration's Commercial Space Transportation Advisory Committee (COMSTAC). The Committee advises the FAA on matters relating to the U.S. commercial space transportation industry. More information is available on the FAA website.
