The timely issue of data security breaches is the subject of The Progress & Freedom Foundation's latest Congressional Seminar, "Data Security and Privacy Protection: What is the Public Sector's Role?" In the wake of several highly publicized breaches of personally identifiable information, both the House and Senate are moving quickly to pass legislation addressing the problems. This Congressional Seminar was July 22nd from noon to 2 p.m. in the Rayburn House Office Building , Room B-369.

PFF Senior Fellow and Vice President for Research Tom Lenard moderated the event. Panelists included former Federal Trade Commissioner Orson Swindle; former FTC Bureau of Consumer Protection Director Howard Beales, currently Associate Professor, Strategic Management & Public Policy at The George Washington University; Marc Rotenberg, Executive Director, Electronic Privacy Information Center, and Adjunct Professor, Georgetown University Law Center; David Cavicke, General Counsel and Chief Counsel for Commerce Trade and Consumer Protection, House Committee on Energy and Commerce; and Paul Rubin, Samuel Candler Dobbs Professor of Law and Economics, Emory University, and PFF Adjunct Fellow.
